Neighborhood Anchors
Posted in waterfrontlivingThe three community centers of Battery Park City
Asphalt Green will be opening its second campus in Battery Park City. Slated to open in January 2012, the community center will be located right across the street from Riverhouse. It will feature a 25-yard pool, teaching pool, fitness center, gym, studios, classrooms, culinary center, and 156-seat theater.
With the opening of Asphalt Green, Battery Park City residents will have three community centers in the neighborhood. Located only five minutes away from Riverhouse is the Manhattan Youth Center, a longtime social anchor of Tribeca. With a wide variety of programming and activities for the whole family Manhattan Youth offers everything from summer camp to cooking classes, with one of the strongest swimming programs in New York City. Manhattan Youth also runs many of the after-school programs in the neighborhood including P.S./I.S.89.
The Battery Park City Conservancy manages the Community Center at Stuyvesant High School, which is open on weekdays after school hours and on weekends. With a fantastic pool, and extensive fitness facilities programming is mostly limited to athletics.
